School seeks students for ArtScience program

Perpich Arts High School, open to juniors and seniors from throughout Minnesota, is looking for students who are strongly interested in the intersection of art and science.
The statewide high school, located in Golden Valley, is in its pilot year of an innovative ArtScience program and is asking teachers and professional associations from around the state to help recruit participants for the program. ArtScience focuses on in-depth learning in the arts and sciences, cultivation of creativity and the ability to realize innovative project ideas.
Perpich is one of only three “lab” sites in the United States working with the Boston and Harvard-incubated ArtScience Prize program, which aims to “promote socially beneficial innovations through cultural experimentation at the frontiers of science.” The program at Perpich completes its first year in May and is recruiting interested students for next fall’s incoming junior class.
Perpich will be hosting an ArtScience Cultural Exhibition from 5 to 7 p.m. April 19 on its campus, 6125 Olson Memorial Pkwy., Golden Valley, that is open to the public. Current ArtScience students will present ideas and prototypes they have been working on and receive constructive feedback from those who attend. The ArtScience Minnesota program is designed for juniors and seniors who want to pursue in-depth, self-directed study across arts and academics. Students examine ways in which different arts and academic subjects interconnect through design and engineering processes.
Students interested in applying to the 2012–2013 ArtScience program at Perpich should contact the school as soon as possible. The school’s application forms are online at: http://www.pcae.k12.mn.us/.
Perpich hopes to create an ArtScience Network of Minnesota schools and Minnesota educators and offer professional development and STEAM workshops to promote ArtScience learning.
