New traffic patterns on I-90 starting today

Published Tuesday, November 3, 2009

Motorists will encounter new traffic patterns on Interstate 90 between Albert Lea and Alden beginning today, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Both directions of traffic were previously routed on the eastbound lanes. The new traffic pattern will be single lane on both the east and westbound lanes.

Crews will be removing the crossover medians that were used during construction and will complete miscellaneous clean-up work.

Freeborn County Road 46 will remain closed as crews finish shoulder work and construct turn lanes.

Ulland Brothers Inc. is the prime contractor for the $16 million construction projects. Both projects should be completed by mid-November, weather permitting.

I thought 46 was supposed to be a two week project ending sometime in either Sept or Oct?? Any clues as to when it will be opened again??

Can anybody tell me why they are laying concrete on Cty 46, but doing an asphalt overlay on I-90 west bound? To me it seems pretty wasteful.

Cty 46 to be finished mid November weather permitting is what KATE said on it today.

Why do you consider it wasteful to use one material on one road and another material on the other?

I'm sure it has to do with the design of the road.

Why were repairs to Co. 46 and I-90 scheduled at the same time?

Why weren’t the Co. 46 detours on the gravel graded better?

Why was the Co. 46 job given to a company that would have taken almost a hundred years to complete I – 90?

I think someone has poorly served us. The time and extra cost to travel the detours is excessive.

Professor...

I am aiming this at you, but throwing it at the general public.
County 46 was supposed to be just an overlay..ya know..with that asphalt. That is why, originally, it was a two week job. It was a quick fix, so people could use 46 as the detour during the 90 construction. Then something happened. The sinister minds that are got confused. They heard complaints about South Shore Road and the many overlays that have happened there. They got their orders confused at Ulland (or whoever has both..cause I think it IS the same group), and shipped the asphalt to 90 instead of 46, and the concrete to 46 instead of 90. Somewhere it saved SOMEONE money..just not sure who or where....LOL.
Seriously tho, design really has nothing to do with it. Inattentiveness among many things has to do with everything in these two projects...and that is just MY two cents on it..

The Albert Lea merchants ought to be aware of the fact that time and distance associated with the detours made going to Blue Earth just as easy as going to Albert Lea from the Alden area.
