Domestic Engineers

The Domestic Engineers Extension Learning Circle met Oct. 22 at the home of Darla Christianson. Vice President Neva Mathison presided over the meeting. Members answered roll call with their choices of Halloween costumes and reasons why. Members also read about the history of Halloween.

Councilor Perky Smith reported Home Council President Marcia Peterson presented a cash award to the Home Council winner at the 4-H banquet. Gen Montei, Home Council treasurer, said 57 members had paid county dues. Southeast District representative Bev Diercks gave a report on the success of the fall retreat, “The Fruits of Minnesota Labor,” held in Kasson on Sept. 30.

Sunshine Lady Carol Olson sent a birthday card to a resident of Broadway Care Assisted Living Plus in October. Phyllis Hamborg will furnish Halloween treats and Neva Mathison will provide Thanksgiving treats.

Bev and Wayne Diercks brought 20 boxes of donated items to the St. Peter Treatment Center Three such facilities are closing in Minnesota and residents will be moved to St. Peter. The need for donated items is great, especially at Christmas.

Kay Christianson of the Albert Lea Medical Center, registered nurse and certified diabetes educator gave the lesson on diabetes. Healthy life style, food balance, exercise, and stress reducers are key. An ALMC diabetes education program, “Holiday Eating,” will be offered at HealthReach on Nov. 9 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The program is free but registration is required. Phone 379-2046.

Sharon Jahnke will be the Nov. 19 hostess, and Bev Diercks will present the lesson. Members will exchange holiday cookies.

Mathison closed the meeting with the reading, “And That’s How the Fight Started.”
