Snowmobile driver hurt in crash
Published Monday, February 8, 2010
MANCHESTER Cory Joe Allhiser, 32, Austin, was injured when his snowmobile went into a drainage ditch near Manchester at approximately 6:20 p.m. Sunday, according to the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office.
Allhiser was treated at Albert Lea Medical Center and transferred to another hospital, according to an ALMC spokeswoman.
The accident report said the Law Enforcement Center received a report of a single snowmobile accident with injuries. The people reporting the accident were not familiar with Freeborn County and could not describe their location. Albert Lea Police Dispatch, working with the enhanced 9-1-1 system, were able to locate the caller’s latitude and longitude coordinates and alerted responding emergency services.
Manchester First Responders, Albert Lea Medical Center Ambulance and Freeborn County Sheriff’s deputies responded.
The report added that three snowmobilers were traveling together eastbound on the county’s trail system in Section 14 of Manchester Township. They became separated from one sled, turned around, and backtracked to find the missing snowmobile and driver in the drainage ditch.

Hope the young man comes out ok.
Thanks to Freeborn County and City of Albert Lea TAXPAYERS for providing the funds for the "Enhanced 9-1-1 System" that was able to help locate this accident in an expedient manner.

nesaajr,
The Enhanced 9-1-1 system is not paid for just by AL citizens. If you look at your phone bill you pay a 911 fee and thats what pays for this service.

“The Minnesota Statewide 911 Program provides technical assistance to the cities and counties implementing, maintaining, and improving 911 systems, enforces rules that set system standards, and pays the state share of 911 costs from funds collected through a monthly statewide telephone surcharge, currently 65 cents until June 30, 2009 and beginning July 1, 2009, the 911 fee increases to 75 cents. Click on the announcement at the top of this page for more information about the 911 fee increase.”
