David started too slowly to have much of a chance.

The Albert Lea High School volleyball team, winless in the Big Nine this season, faced conference-leading Mankato West Tuesday night and lost 3-0 at Southwest Junior High School. The visiting Scarlets won 15-1, 15-0, 15-7.

While disappointed with the outcome, Tigers coach Lisa Deyak said she was proud of how her players fought back in game three.

&uot;West was just more than we could handle,&uot; said Deyak. &uot;We just didn’t have enough offense to beat a team like that.&uot;

The Tigers served 92 percent, going 23-for-25 with two aces.

The leader on offense for Albert Lea was Kari Kamrath, who was 10-for-10 spiking with four kills. Jenny Vanderploeg also had a .400 hitting efficiency while registering three kills. Alyssa Nygaard hit .670 with two kills. Beth Kolling also had two kills.

The leaders on serve receive, according to Deyak, were Jenny Vanderploeg and Holly Larson.

It was the final match of the regular season for the Tigers, who finished 0-9 in the Big Nine and fell to 1-13 in non-tournament matches. They’re scheduled to open Section 1AAA tournament play next Wednesday.
