Boys’ hockey: Another night, another comeback

The ALHS boys, who rallied to defeat Mankato West Tuesday, erased a 2-1 deficit Thursday and went on to top Winona 4-2 in a Big Nine game at the City Arena.

The ALHS boys, who rallied to defeat Mankato West Tuesday, erased a 2-1 deficit Thursday and went on to top Winona 4-2 in a Big Nine game at the City Arena. Albert Lea improved its record to 3-4 in the conference and 3-7 overall.
&uot;This is a game we should win,&uot; said ALHS coach Roy Nystrom. &uot;We stuck in there and played very hard tonight. By and large, it was a team victory. Everyone had to pull their weight and everyone did.&uot;
Jamie Erickson put the Tigers on the scoreboard first, scoring at 2:31 of the opening period off an assist by Matt Bracker.

he Winhawks netted a shorthanded goal at the 7:35 mark and took the lead at 11:44.
It remained 2-1 until 7:05 of the second period, when Egan Mattson scored on an assist from Matt Petersen.
The game-winning goal came on a power play, at 11:22 of the second off the stick of Erickson. Tristan Sather assisted.
Dusty Wangen added an insurance goal with 5:35 left in regulation.
Sophomore Matt Tubbs was again in the net for the Tigers, stopping 17 shots. Albert Lea had 25 shots on goal. Both teams took six penalties.
The Tigers face a tough test Saturday when they travel to Austin for a 6 p.m. game.
