The United South Central Rebels, a perennial Class A boys’ track and field power, finished second to the No. 6 ranked Class AA team in a quadrangular at St. Peter Tuesday.
The Cougars won with 132.5 points, with the Rebels totaling 100.5. St. Peter was a distant third with 39. Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton did not score a point.
The major difference, according to USC coach Kent Viesselman, was depth. The Rebels won eight events, only one less than Mankato East.
&uot;We had some good performances,&uot; said Viesselman. &uot;Somewhere around 34 personal records were turned in.&uot;
Casey Christensen was the top scorer, winning the 200 and 400 meters and the triple jump while taking second in the 100.
Jake Courrier won the shot put and the discus.
The other individual firsts were by Jeff Goeden in the 1600 and Tim Rauenhorst in the 3200. Eric Langsev, Jon Voigt, Noel Johnson and Goeden won the 4×400 relay.
Voigt, Johnson, Jacob Stenzel and Matt Braund combined for second in the 4×800 while Dusty Niebuhr, Britt Wegner, Luke Hill and Bob Schmitz took third in the 4×200.
Other USC places: Adam Korn, third, 100 and fourth, 200; Brandon Aukes, fourth, 110 hurdles; Justin Youngblom, second, 1600 and third, 3200; Schmitz, fourth, 400 and third, triple jump; Brandon Alphs, fourth, long jump; Langsev, second, 800; Matt Theede, third, 800; Justin Bixby, fourth, discus; Stenzel, fifth, 3200; Wegner, second, high jump; Trevor Rollenhagen, fourth, high jump; Hill, fourth, triple jump.
