The Albert Lea Art Center’s Art and Garden Tour will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday, July 13, and from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, July 14.

Tickets are $6 in advance and $8 the day of the tour. Tickets are available at all three Andersen Hallmark stores, at the Art Center, and at Hartland Greenhouse. Friday includes refreshments and entertainment. Saturday includes lunch at the Art Center. The tour guide ticket must be presented at the Albert Lea Art Center for lunch.

This year, all homes on the tour are located in Shoreland Heights. People are urged to park along the park located between Ridge Road and The Fairway.

Friday, July 13

The Harlan Bang/ Mark Hall exhibits continue at the Albert

Lea Art Center from noon-4 p.m. Admission is free; donations

are accepted.

A fund-raiser for the Blazing Star Bike Trail will be held

from 3-7 p.m. at Frank Hall Park. Food, drawings, music, fund

and demonstrations by a BMX bike group are planned. All funds

raised will go toward the Blazing Star Trail. Members of the

Blazing Star Trail Committee and the Hayward Bike Trail will

be on hand with information and to answer questions.

The Conger Volunteer Fire Department and First Responders

will host a pork chop feed from 5-8 p.m. The menu includes pork

chops, cole slaw, potato salad, beans and roll for $7 per person.

Pop and beer will be available. Lutheran Brotherhood Branch 8972

challenge fund has sponsored this event. There will also be a

drawing for Twins’ tickets and meat packages. The drawing is

sponsored by Aid Association for Lutherans Branch 11184.

July Jubilee festivities in Lake Mills, Iowa, include a classic

car cruise at 6:30 p.m. with a street dance following at 8:30

p.m. on North Second Avenue West. Local entertainment includes

Nate and the Moonlighters with special appearances by the &uot;Pixie

Chicks&uot; and &uot;Elvis.&uot;

Minnesota Festival Theatre presents &uot;Godspell&uot;

at the Albert Lea Civic Theatre. The musical depicts a retelling

of the book of St. Matthew in a rock/ folk setting. Tickets are

$15 for adults and $8 for students. Call the box office at 377-4371

for information.

Saturday, July 14

The Bayside Skiers water ski club is sponsoring a wake board

clinic on Saturday, July 14, with registration beginning at 7:30

a.m. The clinic will be held at the Bayside ski site in Edgewater

Park. All ages and skill levels are welcome. All equipment needed

will be provided, as well as instruction. Space is limited. For

cost, preregistration and additional information, call Matt Levorson

at 377-1244.

July Jubilee festivities continue in Lake Mills. A bike ride

begins at 7 a.m. in the parking lot north of the school. A waffle

breakfast will be served from 7-9:30 a.m. at the school. A kiddie

parade starts at 9:30 a.m. and the main parade at 10:30 a.m.

Other events include a rendezvous south of the light plant; community

picnic at Arlington Park from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.; an antique tractor

show from 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on First Avenue Northwest; a slow

tractor race at 1 p.m.; bingo at the Civic Center at 2 p.m.;

a street dance featuring Magic Sound at 8:30 p.m.; and fireworks

at 10 p.m. There are also afternoon activities planned in Oakwood

Park.

Citywide rummage sales in Alden begin at 8 a.m. This is a

kickoff to weeklong Morin Lake Days festivities.

The Albert Lea Farmers’ Market opens at 9 a.m. in the Wal-Mart

parking lot.

The second annual Arc Freeborn County Bowl-a-thon will be

held from 1-3 p.m. at the Holiday Lanes in Albert Lea. Arc is

a nonprofit, United Way agency that provides services to people

with developmental disabilities and their families. All proceeds

from the bowl-a-thon will be used locally for Arc’s programs

and activities.

Sunday, July 15

The Blue Banners Orchestra of Albert Lea will present a free

program of live music in the park at 1:30 p.m. in the Edgewater

Park bandshell. The Blue Banners play old-time waltzes and polkas,

as well as country music and pop tunes. The band is comprised

of Don Johnson, Gene Salisbury, Ralph Wangen, Bob Miller, Lyndon

Johnson, Ben Stuart and Lowell Thompson. The performance is funded

by the city of Albert Lea and the recording industry’s Music

Performance Trust Fund.

The Escalade Barbershop Quartet will perform on the Pelican

Breeze at 2 p.m. The singers in Escalade are members of the Harmony

Junction Chorus. Tom Hawkins sings lead, Randy Rogers sings tenor,

Curt Korn sings bass and Dan Hopper is baritone.

Lake Mills’ July Jubilee continues with a rendezvous south

of the light plant all day, and a demolition derby on Highway

69 North at 3 p.m.
