LYLE – Practice makes perfect.
Or at least in this case, it was good for a shutout.
Coach Tony Barnack credited a solid week of preparation for the Wolverines’ first football victory of the season, 20-0 over Lyle/Austin Pacelli Friday night.
&uot;We had a good week of practice, and the guys came out and played well together,&uot; said Barnack. &uot;Our linemen played well, we played good team defense. We got rid of the mistakes and turnovers and we were able to move the ball with confidence.&uot;
They moved it into the end zone twice late in the second quarter.
The first score came with 1:26 left on a 9-yard run by Paul Kleven.
After a Richie Mathis interception, Kleven threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Zach Adams as time expired. Kleven ran for the conversion.
The other score came with 11:25 left in the game on a 6-yard pass from Kleven to Adams.
Kleven finished 10-for-18 for 106 yards. He threw one interception. Adams ran for 89 yards, Maurice Chessmore 70, Kleven 44.
Mathis had two interceptions, Kleven and Nick Flatness one each.
