It finally did for the ninth-grade team, which pulled off a big 24-22 win over a tough Austin squad last week.

The first half for the Tigers was filled with adversity and big plays. The Packer defense recorded two interceptions that were returned for touchdowns, and the Tigers lost their leading receiver to a season-ending injury. After missing a chance at an early score the Tigers did find the end zone and trailed 22-6 at halftime.

The second half, according to coach Jim Smith, was a true picture of what the team is all about.

&uot;The guys came out with tremendous pride and a determined effort,&uot; said Smith.

Fueled by outstanding line play from Trent Miller, Josh Wilson, Dan Schindler, Ross Anderson and Seth Henry and the punishing running of Brandon Klukow and Ryan Truesdell, the locals went on a 15-play scoring drive to narrow the gap to 22-14.

The defense then got in on the act, registering a much-needed safety to make it 22-16.

After a big return on special teams and the running of Preston Dahl, the Tigers marched nine plays for the tying touchdown and game-winning two-point conversion.

Scoring for the Tigers were Klukow, Truesdell, Jared Butler and Zach Marty.

The defense kept the game in reach with a strong second-half performance. While shutting out the Packers, the Tigers recovered three fumbles in addition to the safety. The defense was led by Tony Dugstad’s two fumble recoveries and the outstanding play of Butler and the defensive backs. Truesdell got the safety.

Smith said the coaches thank the parents and fans for their unwavering support and wish to recognize the players for their effort, passion and spirit they’ve shown this year.

Said Smith, &uot;All have been important to the success and growth of the team.&uot;
