A fire infringed the Farmland plant again Monday, as the ongoing demolishing project apparently ignited the flame. There were neither injuries nor significant structural damages due to the fire.
The fire was reported around 1:19 p.m. Monday. The Albert Lea Fire Department dispatched more than 10 firefighters, and contained the flames shortly.
According to the investigation, the fire was in a building that was once used for smoking meats. Contractors were working on dismantling ducts and air exchangers by using a torch. The work was to remove the ceiling to take a smoking device in the building out, according to the fire department.
The fire department said sparks from the torch inflamed the dust and grease inside the duct. A similar cause was cited for the July 8 fire that destroyed part of the plant and shut down the company, leaving hundreds out of work.
