Swimmers rally past Northfield

NORTHFIELD &045; After dominating the season opener, the Albert Lea High School boys’ swimming and diving team had a much tougher test in a nonconference meet at Northfield Tuesday.
The Tigers passed it.
The ALHS boys improved to 2-0 in dual meets with a 95-88 victory, rallying from an 81-72 deficit and deciding it with a 1-2-3 finish in the final event.
Ryan Lowe, Colton Jensen, Mitch Johnson and Ethan Berg combined to win the last race, the 400-yard freestyle relay, in 3:56.8.
Ben Schreiber, Ben Matheson and Chris Jackson took the top three spots in the previous event, the 100 breaststroke, with Schreiber winning in 1:07.29.
In all, the Tigers won six events.
Johnson was first in the 200 freestyle in 1:54.79 and the 100 free in 51.25 seconds, Jensen won the 500 free in 5:25.82, and Schreiber, Jensen, Johnson and Matheson took the 200 free relay in 1:38.39.

The Albert Lea junior varsity won 96-34. Finishing first for the Tigers were Andrew Klick, 200 free; Josh Anderson, 200 IM and 100 breast; Sean Harms, 50 free; Tyler Peterson, 100 butterfly; Casey Ciffra, 100 free and 100 back.
The Tigers face Mankato West at 6 p.m. Thursday in their home opener. They host the first Albert Lea Invitational on Saturday.
