A Wells man was arrested by the Albert Lea Police Department Sunday for assault and possessing cocaine. Another man at the assault scene was also arrested for cocaine possession.

Domingo Flores III, 24, of 60435 195th St. in Wells, was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree controlled substance crime and possession of drug paraphernalia. Omar Gaspar Sanchez, 26, of 1200 James Ave. in Albert Lea, was charged with a second-degree controlled substance crime.

According to the criminal complaints, Flores assaulted a man with a butcher knife at Channel View Apartments around 3 a.m.

The man was trying to stop Flores from fighting with a woman living in the apartment. Flores chased the man with the knife and vandalized the man’s car with a shovel.

The woman told the ALPD officers that Flores had handed something to Sanchez, who was accompanying Flores, before the assault occurred.

The officers found a plastic bag containing smaller bags, each of which had cocaine inside. The total amount of cocaine was more than 6 grams, according to the investigation.
