Northbridge Mall will host its Bridal Expo 2002 from noon-5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20.
&uot;We have anything connected with a wedding -&160;dresses, tuxes, videographers, photographers, cakes, honeymoon planners, decoration and rentals, and places for receptions and groom’s dinners,&uot; said organizer Pam Folkens of Northbridge Mall.
There will be two fashion shows -&160;one at 1:30 p.m. and one at 3:30 p.m. The 1:30 p.m. show will feature gowns by The Silhouette in Easton and tuxedos by Leutholds in Northbridge Mall. The 3:30 p.m. show will feature Belles and Beaus in Austin.
There will be over $1,000 in prizes given away, including an $300 credit for services from any of the participating vendors. People must be present to win. Brides need to stop at the registration table. Individual vendors will also have prizes.
Businesses participating in the Northbridge Mall Bridal Expo 2002 include: Neda Johnson Photography, Mike’s Photos, Hemingway Photography, Guesthouse Inn, Hy-Vee, Sound Tronics, Mary Kay-Lori Arnold, John Carlson Photography, Conger Inn and Catering, Gina’s Cakes and Candies, Peoble Photography, ViDEYO Arts, Leutholds, Northpark, Carlson Wagonlit Travel, Especially for You, The Memories Collection, Fountain View Inn, Herberger’s, Longaberger Baskets, Country Inn & Suites, Sunshine Entertainment, The Silhouette, Belles & Beaus, Budget Host/Andy’s Road House, and Midwest Kitchen Crafts.
Following is a listing of events happening in the area this weekend:
Friday, Jan. 18
– The All-Member Exhibit continues at the Albert Lea Art Center from noon-4 p.m. Some 20 artists, all members of the Art Center, are exhibiting all types of media: watercolor, acrylics, pastels, pen and ink, photography, sculpture, carvings, drawings and rosemaling, just to name a few. Admission is free, but donations are accepted to help defray expenses.
– St. Theodore Catholic Church will hold a fish fry from 5-6:30 p.m. in Marian Hall. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 12. Children under 3 eat free. The menu includes fish, baked or mashed potatoes, cole slaw, rolls and ice cream with toppings.
Saturday, Jan. 19
– The All-Member Exhibit continues at the Albert Lea Art Center from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. n The 48th annual Eagles Cancer Telethon events will be going on at the Albert Lea Eagles Club. A white elephant and bake sale begins at 9:30 a.m. A cable-thon with live entertainment will be held from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and a silent auction and supper runs from 6-7:30 p.m. The telethon will be broadcast from KROC Television in Rochester beginning at 8 p.m.
Sunday, Jan. 20
– The Eagles Cancer Telethon breakfast will be held from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Eagles Club.
– The Albert Lea Girls’ and Boys’ Hockey Boosters will hold a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Albert Lea Union Center. Cost is $4 per person, and children 5 and under eat free. Pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, coffee, milk and orange juice will be served.
Monday, Jan. 21 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day)
– The annual Martin Luther King Day breakfast will held from 7-7:50 a.m. at Bethany Hall, First Lutheran Church, 301 W. Clark St. A $2 minimum offering will be accepted for the continental breakfast. – The Peace and Justice Committee of the Albert Lea Human Rights Commission will host a variety presentation at noon and 5 p.m. at the Albert Lea Civic Theatre. For the approximately 30-minute presentation, Linda Lares will serve as master of ceremonies. Artwork by Bonnie Wedge will be on display at the theatre. There will be excerpts from King’s &uot;I Have A Dream&uot; speech, with some audience participation. George Marin will provide music, and Anne Ehrhardt will read poems of either Maya Angelou of Langston Hughes. Charles Winslett of Owatonna and Glen Parsons will present an excerpt from &uot;Master Harold and the Boys.&uot; The presentation will end with the song, &uot;You Have to Be Carefully Taught&uot; from &uot;South Pacific.&uot; Admission is free, and all ages are welcome.
– Students in the Albert Lea music program will be performing with a guest soloist at 7:30 p.m. at the Albert Lea High School Auditorium. The featured soloist is trumpet player Ramon Vasquez, artist-in-residence for the Albert Lea Area Schools.
