GLENVILLE – The Glenville-Emmons boys’ basketball team made a strong run at the Southeast Conference West Division leaders but fell just short, losing 47-46 to LeRoy-Ostrander at Glenville Thursday night.
&uot;This was a tough one for us,&uot; said Wolverines coach Jeff Rayman. &uot;I feel bad for the kids. They had their sights set on winning the conference.&uot;
The problem was a slow start. The Wolverines trailed 14-5 after one quarter and 26-14 at halftime. They were within 34-29 after three quarters and briefly took the lead in the fourth.
&uot;If we played the first half the way we played the second, it could have been our game,&uot; said Rayman.
The Wolverines had only eight turnovers but had troubles shooting, making only five of 27 field goals in the first half and 16 of 55 for the night.
The Wolverines’ leaders: Paul Kleven 18 points, seven rebounds, four assists; Chase Rayman 12 points, nine rebounds; Richie Mathis eight points; Nick Flatness six points, seven rebounds; Zach Adams two points.
The Wolverines fell to 14-4 overall and 5-3 in the conference while the Cardinals improved to 12-8 and 8-1.
The Wolverines travel to Lanesboro for a rescheduled game tonight.
