ALHS track boys 12th in Rosemount Invitational

ROSEMOUNT &045; The Albert Lea High School boys’ track and field team finished 12th out of 14 schools in Friday’s Rosemount Invitational.
Tartan won with 99 points, followed by Richfield with 91.5, Woodbury 87.5, Moorhead 72, St. Thomas academy 68.5, Edina 62, Coon Rapids 45.5, Winona 45, Farmington 37.5, Rosemount 35.5, Hastings 32, Albert Lea 17, Simley 8 and Patrick Henry 1.
Tyler Young was the Tigers’ top placewinner, taking second in the discus with a personal-best toss of 142 feet, 10 inches. There were 36 competitors in the event.
Taylor Zimmerman finished fourth out of 30 runners the 3200 meters in a personal-record of 10:25. Ben Woodside was sixth in the high jump at 5-6, Matt Olsen eighth in the 800 in 2:12. The 4×800 relay team of Joe Squires, Sean Harms, Matt Olsen and Adam Muilenburg finished ninth in 8:57.
“Although we didn’t finish well as a team, the meet was great for the kids as individuals,&uot; said ALHS coach Lon Nelson. &uot;Each runner or thrower was matched with six or seven athletes of equal ability. Next year one of their goals is to qualify for a more elite group than the one they competed in this season.”
The Tigers’ next meet is today at Mankato West.
