The Northfield Raiders have a good team.

The Albert Lea Tigers had a bad day.

It led to a lop-sided loss for the locals, who fell 9-2 in a nonconference baseball game at Hayek Field Monday.

The Tigers had as many errors as hits, six, while giving the Raiders six unearned runs.

&uot;We gave them a couple big innings they shouldn’t have had,&uot; said Albert Lea coach Joe Sczublewski. &uot;Against a good team, you can’t give them more than three outs an inning.&uot;

The Raiders improved to 6-1. Their lone loss is to Missota Conference rival Holy Angels, the No. 1 rated Class AA team in the state.

Andy Drenth and Jay Link led the Tigers Monday with a double and two hits each. Drenth drove in both Albert Lea runs and Link scored both. Adam Wacholz and David Villarreal had one hit each.

Derek Goodnature went the distance on the mound, giving up nine hits and four walks, with two strikeouts.

&uot;He pitched a lot better than the score indicates,&uot; said Sczublewski. &uot;He had them putting the ball in play.&uot;

The Tigers return to conference action today with a 4 p.m. doubleheader against Winona at Hayek Field.
