Tornado season is upon us again in Minnesota, and one need look no further than Glenville to remember that disaster can strike at any time at any place, especially during this April-to-June stretch when most tornadoes occur. A little bit of preparedness can be enough to save a life if a tornado hits without much warning.
The yearly statewide tornado drill is planned for Thursday at 1:45 p.m. This week is also designated as severe weather awareness week. And at least one television program, at 6:30 p.m. today on KIMT, is dedicated to spreading awareness of severe weather phenomena and what you can do to protect yourself.
All these efforts can help residents come up with a plan of action for when nasty weather hits. It can be as simple as thinking about where everyone should go when a tornado hits: A basement or an interior room with no windows is best, and under a stairwell or other sturdy structure is a good place.
Taking a few steps to plan for tornado season is an easy way to increase your odds if a tornado strikes this spring.
