911 callers may not notice it, but the Law Enforcement Center now has new dispatch switchboards handling 911 calls from citizens.
The installation of the new system started Wednesday to replace the current device that has been used for more than 15 years.
The new version boasts a perfect integration with other communication lines such as radio and administrative phone lines, according to the police.
Together with a new 911 system and numeric rural addressing, which enable a dispatcher to pinpoint the origin of a call promptly, the new switchboards are expected to increase the efficiency of the first responders’ services.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, there are about 4,500 911 calls a year in the county. The number will be higher once 911 calls from cell phones are directly put through the local dispatch center, the police predict.
