Funeral services for James E. Newgard, age 70, of Clarks Grove, will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 7, at the Hartland Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Rev. Dennis Schmidt will officiate. Interment will be at the Hartland Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home is assisting the family.

James died at his residence in Clarks Grove.

James Edward Newgard was born Jan. 31, 1932, to Arthur and Myrtle (Borgen) Newgard on the family farm in rural Hartland. He was baptized and confirmed at the Hartland Evangelical Lutheran Church and remained a steadfast member all his life. James grew up in rural Hartland and graduated from Ellendale High School. He farmed all his life in the Hartland area until his retirement in 1996.

James is survived by his sister-in-laws: Hazel Newgard of Glenville and Theresa Newgard of Albert Lea; many nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and -nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Richard and Duane Newgard; and a grand-niece, Erin Mekayla Newgard.
