Mabel Morreim, 93, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Mabel Morreim, age 93, of Albert Lea, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, at the First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Lyndy West will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. today at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services at the church.

Mabel died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at the Albert Lea Medical Center.

Mabel Hanson Morreim was born April 5, 1909, to Andrew and Sarah (Sondrol) Hanson in Emmons. She was baptized and confirmed at Emmons Lutheran Church. Mabel graduated from Emmons High School in 1928. As a young woman, she worked as a maid for Mr. and Mrs. Don Albert, the manager of the National Tea Grocery Store, and part time in the store. On Dec. 24, 1938, Mabel was united in marriage to Meloid Morreim at a Lutheran Church in Mason City. In 1940 the couple joined First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea with 125 other new members. Mabel was very active in church. She taught Sunday School, was secretary for the Sunday School, and was a member of FLCW, altar guild, Mission Circle 19, and Caring and Sharing.

Mabel worked for 20 years for the Albert Lea Bakery. After retirement, she did volunteer work for several years for First Lutheran Church on the worship offering committee and at St. John’s on the Christmas decorating committee. Mabel was an avid reader and spent time sewing, quilting, cross stitching, and crocheting. She enjoyed dancing, listening to old time music, and going on bus trips with senior citizens.

Mabel was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a true child of God. Her bright smile and twinkling brown eyes will be missed.

Mabel is survived by her husband, Meloid; daughter, Janice and husband Jon Paske of Albert Lea; granddaughter, Julie and husband Kevin Meyer of Lanesboro; great-granddaughter, Nicollette Meyer; brothers: Vernon and wife Rhoda Hanson of Detroit Lakes, and Bob; and sisters-in-law: Betty Hanson and lone Hanson, both of Albert Lea.

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents: Andrew and Sarah Hanson; sisters: Luella Bendickson and Sarah Hanson; brothers: Melvin Hanson, Arnold and wife Velma, Lester and wife Eleanor, Glen and wife Lyla Hanson, Palmer Hanson and Alvin Hanson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Peace and Power or the donor’s choice.
