The Minnesota Building Contractors Park & Recreation 7-9 baseball team finished the year in exciting fashion.
After going 5-1 in the regular season, the team made it to the championship game of the playoffs. The title game, against Domino’s Pizza, figured to be evenly matched, with both teams having solid pitching and defense.
Minnesota Building Contractors got three strong innings of pitching from both Troy Olson and Mitch Wenum. Trailing by two runs with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, clutch hitting by Ben Waalken and Wenum drove in three runs to win the game.
&uot;Both teams played great baseball, and it was fun to watch the guys come through under pressure,&uot; according to coaches Gordy Wenum, Kendall Langseth and Dick Polley. &uot;It was a true team effort all year. Someone different would come up with a big hit or big catch every game. They were a fun group of guys to coach and they really listed and learned the fundamentals of the game.&uot;
The rest of the team included Ty Skogheim, Tim Hauge, Drew Passingham, Ethan Brower, R.J. Polley, Ben Johnson, Levi Langseth, Cody Nielsen, Eric Bowron, Louie Grossman, Josh Jordahl and Matt Munson.
