LYLE &045; Broken legs, dislocated shoulders, broken wrists, concussions.

The Alden-Conger Knights have had all that and more this fall.

What they haven’t had is a victory. But they showed some spark Wednesday in the final game of the regular season despite falling 50-38 to Lyle/Austin Pacelli.

&uot;We showed a little fight tonight in the second half,&uot; said coach Gary Nelson. &uot;Hopefully we can carry it over into the next game and try to get a win for once this year.&uot;

Nelson, who has coached football for 22 years, had never seen a second quarter like Wednesday’s. The teams combined for 44 points, with L/P scoring on a 76-yard pass and a 62-yard run while the Knights got a 79-yard kickoff return by Will Peterson and a 69-yard pass from Scott Martinson to Josh Wills.

&uot;They just hit one long run after another, then a long pass, and we faked a reverse on a kickoff and connected on a bomb,&uot; said Nelson. &uot;It was a free-for-all in that second quarter.&uot;

Jason Hemmingsen scored second-half touchdowns on runs of 69 and 35 yards and finished with 131 yards on 12 carries. Martinson completed five of 24 passes for 93 yards, with two interceptions. Wills caught two passes for 80 yards.

Hemmingsen led the Knights in tackles.

The Knights, 0-8 overall and 0-7 in conference play, begin the section playoffs Tuesday.
