LUVERNE &045; Albert Lea girls’ hockey coach Mike Miller was thankful for the victory, but even more thankful for other things.

&uot;I’m glad we got out of there without getting any injuries,&uot; said Miller. &uot;And I’m proud of the way our girls maintained their composure.&uot;

Miller’s Tigers survived a rough game at Luverne Tuesday, where they won 8-0 despite a very physical effort from the home team.

&uot;We could have had four girls injured tonight,&uot; said Miller.

They did have five girls score.

Laura Hillman netted four goals, with Heather Bagley, Brittany Arendt, Tessa Christensen and Anna Sigurdson getting one apiece. Assists went to Sarah Jensen, Arendt, Bagley, Frances O’Donnell, Lindsey Sorenson, Marissa Cottrell, Amy Leach and Lacey Oyer.

Danika Porter was in goal for the first two periods, replaced in the third by Erin Schlauerbaum.

Albert Lea outshot Luverne 23-20. The only three penalties of the game were taken by Luverne.

Miller said Abby Leach and Cottrell were called up from the junior varsity team and played well.

The Tigers, 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the Big Nine, expect a tough nonconference test Thursday at Eagan.
