Elsie H. Durrant, 88, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Elsie H. Durrant of Albert Lea will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30, at the Grace Lutheran Church of Albert Lea. The Rev. Todd Walsh will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Albert Lea
Mrs. Durrant died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at her home in Albert Lea. She was 88 years of age.
Elsie Harriet (Rugroden) Durrant was born Jan. 8, 1914, to Martha (Simonson) and Ole Rugroden, rural Hartland. She was baptized by the Rev. Strand on Oct. 21, 1928. She was confirmed by the Rev. Sande at the Hartland Synod Church. She attended grade school in Hartland and graduated from Freeborn High School on May 31, 1931. On Jan. 18, 1942 she was married to Arthur Durrant at the Hartland Synod Church by the Rev. Sande. Her husband enlisted in the Army in 1941. During that time they lived in California. After his discharge from the Army, they moved to Minneapolis and lived there from 1946 until 1973.
She worked in the laundry at the Veteran’s Hospital in Minneapolis from 1961-1973, when she retired and returned to Albert Lea. She did volunteer work for the church, VFW, Legion and Eagles Club. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Albert Lea. She was active in Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her husband in October 1998; her parents, Ole and Martha Rugroden; father-in-law, Herman Bauers; sister, Stella Dally; brother, Maynard Rugroden; and brothers-in-law, Harley Dally, Leonard Hughes, Ernest Hendrickson, Elver Back and Orlyn Thieman.
She is survived by her sisters, Palma Hughes of Storm Lake, Iowa, Nora Henricksen and Clara Thieman of Albert Lea, and Myrtle Back of Andover, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Elaine Rugroden of Concord, Calif., and Lauretta (Manville) Toenges of Alden; mother-in-law, Hulda Bauers of Albert Lea; and nieces and nephews and cousins.
