Elsie S. Freidel, 87, Blue Earth

Elsie S. Freidel, age 87, formerly of Walters/Emmons area; currently resident of St. Luke’s Care center in Blue Earth, died Friday Dec. 6, 2002 at United Hospital in Blue Earth, Minn. She had been ill since May. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. at United Lutheran Church in Walters. Rev. Don Rose will officiate. Visitation will at United Lutheran Church in Walters on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of the services. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is in charge of arrangements. Interment will be at Mansfield Lutheran Cemetery.

Freidel was born March 4, 1915 the daughter of Carl and Augusta Sperlick in Hutchinson County, S.D. She was married to Marvin J. Freidel on May 24, 1931 in Hillside S.D. They lived and farmed in South Dakota until 1940 when they moved to the Twin Cities where Marvin worked at Fort Snelling. They farmed near Wells in 1943 and in 1944 they moved to Walters and farmed until 1974 when they retired and moved to Emmons. She also worked at Land-o-Lakes in Albert Lea. Elsie was a member of United Lutheran Church in Walters and enjoyed fishing and crafts.

She is survived by one son, Floyd (wife Norma) Freidel of Bricelyn, Minn. One son-in-law, Alfred Seedorf of Walters. Seven grandchildren; Duane (wife Terry) Seedorf, Steve (wife Terri) Seedorf, Bradley (wife Cindy) Seedorf, Mitzi (husband Rodney) Shirk, Peggy Sabin, Cindy (husband Bradley) Quade and Jeff (wife Jennifer) Freidel. Sixteen great-grandchildren; Brain, Brooke and Alan Shirk, Andy and Danny Sabin, Ryan and Jacob Quade, Garrett Freidel, Jessica Seedorf, Tiffany, Tanner and Trinity Seedorf, Jeremy Jonathan, Jamey and Jenny Seedorf.

Two sister; Norma Mercer and Minnie Wisnewski of Blue Earth. One brother-in-law Leo (wife Alice) Freidel of Gettysburg, S.D. Five sisters-in-law; Margaret Freidel and Gertrude Freidel and Tutz Hochhalter, all of Rapid City, S.D., Mae Freidel of Pierre, S.D., Violet (husband Elmer) Koutz of Ethan S.D. and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1995, and one daughter Florence Seedorf in 1998, five brothers, one sister and one great-grandson.
