Harold W. Luetjens, 77, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Harold W. Luetjens of Albert Lea was held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea. The Rev. Don Rose officiated. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa. Visitation was held 11:30 p.m. Monday. Military Honors were accorded.

Harold died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002 at the Good Samaritan Center where he has resided since Nov. 30, 1994. He was 77 years old.

Harold was born July 4, 1925, at Dennison, Iowa, to Henry L. and Bertha M. (Noelck) Luetjens. He grew up at Dennison and graduated from Dennison High School in 1943. Harold then entered into the United States Navy and was assigned for a time to the CB’s 112th Division and discharged on Dec. 20, 1945. In 1946, Harold married Margaret Louise. He then continued with the Naval Reserves until his discharge in May 1952. Harold married Mary Furnish on Oct. 7, 1967. Harold was a member of First Lutheran Church. He was the manager for Safeway Super Markets for 16 years in Maryville, Mo., Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Mason City, Iowa. Harold worked for Wilson and Company and Farmstead Food for 24 years until his retirement in 1988. He belonged to the American Legion. Harold enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and doing yardwork. Harold enjoyed watching the Vikings and football in general.

Harold is survived by his wife, Mary Luetjens of Albert Lea; children: James R. Luetjens of Rockford, Minn., Sandi K. Belcher and her husband Bryan of Des Moines, Iowa, William R. Furnish and his wife Maggie of Kansas City, Mo., and Virginia Sullivan and her husband Kevin of Dunnellen, Fla.; grandchildren: Peggy Hargreaves and her husband J. T., James W. Luetjens, Patrick Nehls, April Darling, Ryan Nehls, Ashley Nehls, Allison and Brandon Hargreaves, Robert William Furnish, William Arthur Furnish, and Beth Furnish; great-grandchildren: Meckensie, Ethan, Madison, Kirkland, and Tanner; sister: LaDonna Lapel of Dennison, Iowa; sisters-in-law: Dixie Krause of Alden, Iowa, and Theresa Scheef of St. Louis, Mo.; and nieces and nephews: Steven Krause, Danny Scheef, and Michael and Megan Kline.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Margaret Louise.
