Funeral services for Nettie F. Butler, age 93, of Albert Lea, formerly of Waterloo and Boone, Iowa, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2,
at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home in Albert Lea, with graveside services at 3 p.m. at Lynnwood Park Cemetery in Boone, Iowa. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Nettie died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea.
Nettie Frances Butler was born May 18, 1909, in Bonner Springs, Kan., the daughter of James Franklin and Nettie (Leftwich) Ervin. She was a graduate of Harrisonville High School in Missouri and Thompson’s Rudermar School of Beauty Culture in Des Moines, Iowa. Nettie married Alfred J. Butler on Oct. 4, 1928, in Kansas City, Mo. Nettie owned and operated Leftwich Beauty Shops in Boone, Cedar Falls, and Ames, Iowa, as well as the Turquoise Jewel Box in Boone and the Leftwich Haviland Matching Service of Boone and Albert Lea.
Survivors include her son, Jerry A. and wife Carol Butler of Waterloo, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Nettie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred J. Butler; daughter, Wanda Lea Hughes; son-in-law, Robert O. Hughes; four brothers: Earnest E. Ervin, William Harvey Ervin, James Franklin Ervin Jr., and Charles Leon Ervin; and five sisters: Naomi Melton, Mabel L. McCullough, Emily Morris, Dorothy Eileen Sterner, and Alma Gertrude Heitman.
