Four friends, a chance to rent space, and a spur of the moment business plan added up to a new business, The Hair Place salon, for four area hair stylists.

“The space came up and we kind of spontaniously decided to go for it,” Paula Hanson, one of the owners of the business. “We’d all worked together at another salon, but had never really talked about going into business.”

The Hair Place opened last Monday. It is located on Bridge Avenue, just north of Marshall Street.

Inside there are four different cubicles with barber chairs in them. They are individualized for each of the stylist/co-owners. Hanson, Donald Kimber, Holly Langfald and Jennifer Everett rent out the space together and split the profits.

“Basically we are just a bunch of friends who got together to do some hair,” said Hanson smiling.

She also said that the stylists at The Hair Place put education as a priority and will be attending classes on hair styling often. &uot;It’s important to stay on top of things and improve,&uot; she said.

The salon differs from others by providing very high quality haircuts at affordable prices, according to Hanson.

“In this economy we decided we wanted to keep prices real and down to earth,” Hanson said. “Where a family can come for their haircuts.”

One of the unique things about The Hair Place is that they cater to the needs of children. They have a television set up with a play station and bean bag chairs in front of it. Soon, Hanson said, the salon will get a kid’s chair for haircuts, which will be shaped like an airplane.

Hanson said she hopes that the Hair Place will be a salon where anyone will feel comfortable.

&uot;We don’t want to be stuffy. Some salons have that kind of atmosphere. We don’t want that,&uot; she said. &uot;We are also going to get a television with cable where guys, or girls, can come and watch sports or whatever they want to watch while they wait.&uot;

The hours of The Hair Place are set up for a flexible schedule. They are open seven days a week, and on weeknights are open until 8 p.m. Walk ins are welcome.
