Floyd Rebelein, age 80, of Alden, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at his home in Alden.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden, with the Rev. Peter Soli officiating. Visitation will be at the Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells on Friday from 4-8 p.m., and one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in the Alden Cemetery with military honors by the Alden American Legion Post.
He was born Oct. 12, 1922. in Alden Township, Freeborn County, the son of John and Hulda (Scherb) Rebelein. He married Norma A. Hoeg on Aug. 26, 1947, in Alden.
He served in the U.S. Army 1944-1946 as military police in Japan and the Philippines. He was given a special assignment of guarding Gen. Dwight Eisenhower. He farmed for 35 years on the family farm in rural Walters. He worked on the “wheat run” and worked for area grain elevators. He also worked for the City of Alden and the Freeborn Oakview Golf Course. He worked for the Alden Public School. He had been a 4-H leader. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden and a former member of United Lutheran Church in Walters and its brotherhood. He was a member of the Alden American Legion Post. He enjoyed hunting and visiting with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by three sons and two daughters, 14 grandchildren and one great-grandson: Dennis (wife Karen) Rebelein of Wells and their children, Michelle and husband Paul Finch and son Christian Finch, Dennis Rebelein Jr. and wife Tammy, April Rebelein and special friend Darin Kepler; Curtis (wife Cathy) Rebelein of Albert Lea and their children, Curtis Rebelein Jr. and wife
Beth, Chris and special friend Nyla Anderson, and Catie Rebelein; Howard Rebelein of Alden and his children, Naomi and husband Shawn Lee, and Jared Steele; JoAnne (husband Jim) Stoa of Whittier, Calif., and their children, Jeremy, Jonathan Stoa and fianc Jennifer Hill, and Jennifer and husband Joshua Riggs; Sharon (husband Mike) Kearney of Whittier, Calif., and their childrenm Arlie, Kiel and Bradley Kearney; three sisters: Loretta (husband Kenneth) Wacholz of Conger,Geraldine Sauke of Albert Lea, and Marilyn (husband Kenneth) Haukoos of Walters; sister-in-law, Frieda Rebelein of Wells; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma, in 1988; sister, Virginia Olson; and brother, Sigmund Rebelein.
