Phillip C. Hanson, 82, Albert Lea

The memorial service for Phillip C. Hanson of 905 Maplehill Drive, Albert Lea, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003 at Grace Lutheran Church, in Albert Lea. The Rev. John Henriksen will officiate. Interment will be in East Freeborn Cemetery, rural Albert Lea. Military honors will be accorded by Albert Lea Veteran’s Organizations. Friends may visit with family from 5-8 p.m. on Monday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, and one hour before the service at the church.

Phillip died on Friday, Jan. 3, 2003 at St. John’s Lutheran Home. He was 82.

He was born on Dec. 2, 1920, in Freeborn County, Riceland Township, the son of Roy and Palma (Skophammer) Hanson.

He was baptized and confirmed at the East Freeborn Lutheran Church. He graduated from Albert Lea High School

Phillip served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II, entering in July of 1942, and receiving his honorable discharge in October of 1945.

While in the service, in August of 1943, he was united in marriage to Margaret Emstad. To this union two children were born, Bonita and Steven. Margaret died in 1965. On Feb. 27, 1971, Phillip married Arlene Olson at Grace Lutheran Church.

A Freeborn County resident all of his life, Phillip had worked for Universal Milking Machine for 37 years, retiring in February of 1983. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the Elks, the Eagles, the American Legion and was active at the Senior Center. He enjoyed golf, bowling, woodcarving and dancing.

Phillip is survived by his wife Arlene of Albert Lea, daughter Bonita Hanson of Woodbury, Minn., daughter-in-law Kittie Hanson of Albert Lea, grandchildren: Kjirsten Doole of Woodbury, Minn., Andrew Hanson of Albert Lea, step-son Perry Olson and his wife Stacia of Apple Valley, Minn., Dale Olson and his wife Tessie of Elko, Nev.., eight step-grandchildren, 13 step-great-grandchildren; a brother Lyle Hanson and his wife Ann of Albert Lea, aunt Leah Skophammer of Albert Lea, many cousins, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Margaret in 1965, and his son Steven in 1999.
