Viola ‘Bobbie’ Dahl, 95, Emmons

Funeral services for Viola “Bobbie” Dahl, age 95, of Emmons, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Emmons Lutheran Church with the Rev. Julie Fiske officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday at Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills, Iowa, and again one hour before the services at the church. Burial will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Emmons

Viola Dahl was born Jan. 22, 1907, in Silver Lake Township, Worth County, Iowa, to Hans and Louisa (Dahl) Halvorson. She was baptized March 3, 1907, at Sion Lutheran Church by the Rev. A. J. Torgerson. She was confirmed June 11, 1922, at Somber Church and attended the Christian Day School there.

On June 15, 1926, Viola graduated from Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm. While attending school there she acquired the nickname “Bobbie” because she was the first one to have a bobbed hair cut.

On March 9, 1930, Bobbie married Lawrence Dahl at Somber Church. Together they farmed in the Emmons area.

Bobbie enjoyed flowers, gardening, baking, quilting, crocheting, reading and helping others. She furnished flowers for the church for many occasions. She was active in WELCA, mission circle and taught Sunday School for many years. She worked for a number of years for Knutsen and Olsen Hardware and the Lake Mills Care Center.

Bobbie passed away Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at St. John’s Lutheran Home where she had been a resident since Jan. 2, 2003. She was 95 years old.

She is survived by two sons: Robert Dahl and his wife Vonnie of Emmons, and Dennis Dahl and his wife Kathy of White Bear Lake; nine grandchildren: David Dahl and his wife Kerri, Michael Dahl and his wife Marge, Greg Dahl and his wife Dawnn, Sharilyn Bothwell and her husband Ron, John Dahl and his wife Tanya, Stephanie Stefanovich, Linda Dahl, Jolyn Techer and her husband Ty, and James Dahl; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one daughter-in-law, Joanne Dahl; one sister, Dena Peterson; one sister-in-law, Edna Halvorson; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence; her son, Lynn; and 12 sisters and brothers.
