Ellis Franklin Lukens, 93, Adams

Funeral services for Ellis Lukens, age 93, of Cedar Court Apartments, Adams, formerly of Albert Lea, will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at the Lunder Lutheran Church. The Rev. Tammy Dahlvang will officiate. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., today, Feb. 20, at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the Church on Friday.

Ellis died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at the Adams Health Care Center in Adams.

Ellis Franklin Lukens was born Dec. 25, 1909, at Albert Lea, the son of Clarence and Ethel (Springer) Lukens. He was raised in Albert Lea and graduated from Albert Lea High School. He attended the University of Minnesota for a short time. He worked on the family farm. On June 4, 1933 , he was united in marriage to Verda Hosford at Alden. After his marriage he continued to work on the family farm. Later he managed several super markets: A & P, National Tea and Johnsruds. He served as assistant Freeborn County assessor, retiring at age 65.

Ellis enjoyed collecting and restoring old gasoline engines and gardening of all types. He planted many trees from all over on the family land. Ellis was a member of the Odd Fellows of Albert Lea and Township Board. He was a member of the Methodist Church where he had been very active, and later at the Lunder Lutheran Church.

Ellis is survived by his daughter, Arvis and husband Rev. Allen Gunderson of Adams; grandchildren: Lee and wife Julie Gunderson, Vicki and husband John Kiefer, Tim and wife Tristine Gunderson, Janey and husband Tim Murphy, Pamela and husband Stephen Bamrick, Kris Gunderson, Susan and husband Tim Sullivan, Steven and wife Nancy Lukens, and Patricia and husband James Hove; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Gladys Whitney of Whittier, Calif.; sister-in-law, Shirley Lukens of Mankato; and several nieces and nephews.

Ellis was preceded in death by his parents; wife Verda; one son, Argyle; one sister, Mildred Hahn; and one brother, Harrison (Bud) Lukens.
