An Albert Lea woman who embezzled more than $100,000 from her workplace received a stayed prison-time sentence Friday.
Rose Marie Modderman, 34, will be on probation for up to 10 years. Judge James Broberg also ordered her to restitute $137,000 and participate in a program for domestic violence education.
Modderman had pled guilty for using business checks from Olson Manufacturing Co. where she was working between November 2000 and May 2001.
In her last court hearing, Modderman testified that she’d embezzled the money when she was drug induced by her boyfriend. She fled to Denver, Colo. with the man, but later was arrested when she reported domestic abuse complaint against him to the local police.
The stayed sentence was in accordance with the state sentencing guidelines. Judge Broberg reprimanded Modderman for taking advantage of the trust by her employer. “You came very close to destroying the family (owned) business,” he said.
