Bernadine F. Burns, age 86, of Wells, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003 at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 22 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Wells, with the Rev. Eugene Stenzel officiating. Visitation will be Friday, March 21 from 4-7 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, with a senior citizens’ prayer service at 4:30 p.m., and a 6 p.m. parish prayer service; and the rosary on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the church, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in St. Casimir Catholic Cemetery in Wells.
She was born June 23, 1916, the daughter of George A. and Maude B. (Klenk) Smith in Clark Township, Faribault County.
She was a lifelong resident of the Wells area, and had attended rural schools. On June 4, 1935, she was united in marriage to Elmer &uot;Mike&uot; Burns at St. Mary’s Church in Waseca. Bernadine worked at the canning factory and the dime store, prior to the couple starting the first drive-in in Wells. She had also worked at Telex in Blue Earth. She was a member of St. Casimir Catholic Church and the CCW. She was an active member of the Wells Senior Citizens and numerous card clubs. She enjoyed playing cards, loved music, singing and word puzzles.
She is survived by one daughter, Beverly and her husband Charles Hogan of Crystal, Minn.; three grandchildren: Christopher and his wife Thanh Hogan of Crystal, Timothy Hogan of Brooklyn Park and Shannon Hogan of Minneapolis; one great-granddaughter, Maggie Hogan of Crystal; one sister, Neva and her husband Lyle Neubauer of Wells; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1994, daughter, and four brothers: Merrill, Don, LaMar and Jay Smith.
