Tigersharks make a splash at state

The Albert Lea Family Y Tigersharks turned in a strong showing in the 2003 Minnesota State YMCA Swimming Meet, placing in 21 events.

Jackie Elwood scored the most points for the locals, winning three events in the girls’ 11-12 age group. She won the 25-yard backstroke in 27.42 seconds, the 50 backstroke in 31.72 and the 50 butterfly in 30.91.

There were four other individual top-five finishes, two by Bria Schreiber, who was third in the girls’ 8-and-under 50 freestyle in 17.14, second in the 50 breaststroke in

22.34 and fourth in another event. Grace Thomas was second in the girls’ 9-10 50 breaststroke in 42.15.

The top relay was the girls’ 8-and-under 100 freestyle team of Schreiber, Kemma Bergland, Whitney Rasmussen and Randi Johnson, which placed fourth in 1:17.01.
