Oak Ridge Boys return to lead county fair roster

The Freeborn County Fair Board has released its lineup of grandstand entertainment for this year’s county fair, which will run July 29-Aug. 3.

The annual Albert Lea Jaycees Demolition Derby will open the fair on Tuesday, July 29 at 6 p.m.

All the musical entertainment at this year’s fair is country western. The groups range from up-and-coming to established.

The entertainment for Wednesday, July 30, with shows at 7 and 9 p.m. is Emerson Drive. Emerson Drive, which got its start in Canada, includes Brad Mates on vocals, Danick Dupelle on guitar, Jeff Loberg on bass, Chris Hartman on keyboard, Pat Allingham on fiddle and Mike Melancon on drums. The group released its self-titled album in May of last year under the DreamWorks Records label.

Tammy Cochran will take the grandstand stage at 7 and 9 p.m. Thursday, July 31. Cochran is best known for &uot;Angels in Waiting,&uot; which was released in 2001. Written about her two brothers, Shawn and Alan, who died from cystic fibrosis, &uot;Angels in Waiting&uot; has become an anthem for many Americans, such a strong symbol of hope that her name appeared five times on the finalists list for the Academy of Country Music Awards, making her the most-nominated female in the business.

Back again are the Oak Ridge Boys on Friday, Aug. 1, with shows at 7 and 9 p.m. The quartet of Duane Allen, Joe Bonsall, William Lee Golden and Richard Sterban is best known for such hits as &uot;Elvira,&uot; &uot;Y’all Come Back Saloon,&uot; &uot;Bobbie Sue&uot; and &uot;I Guess It Never Hurts to Hurt Sometimes.&uot;

Neal McCoy will be on stage at 7 and 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2. McCoy just released his album, &uot;The Luckiest Man in the World,&uot; in January of this year. He’s known for his hits, &uot;That’s How Much I Love You,&uot; &uot;At This Moment,&uot; &uot;If I Built You a Fire,&uot; &uot;This Time I Hurt Her More (Than She Loves Me),&uot; and &uot;No Doubt About It.&uot;

The fair concludes with the National Tractor Pullers Association tractor pull at 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3.

General admission tickets to the fair are: Children ages 10 to adult -$6. Season ticket (preseason) – $25, after July 26 – $28. Children under 10 are admitted free.

All of the above tickets give free admission to the grandstand shows (general seating only). There will also be a limited number of reserved seats for the grandstand at $15.
