Ole Meloid Morreim, 99, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Meloid Morreim, age 99, of Albert Lea, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at the First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. John Holt will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services at the church.

Meloid died Monday, March 31, 2003, at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea.

Ole Meloid Morreim was born in a farm home in Manchester Township on May 14, 1903, to Theodore and Caroline (Knutson) Morreim. He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at Central Freeborn Lutheran Church. Meloid attended school in District #19. As a young man, he worked for several farmers until 1925 when he became employed at the American Gas Co., later King-Seely, where he worked for the next 45 years.

On Dec. 24, 1938, Meloid was united in marriage to Mabel Hanson at a Lutheran parsonage in Mason City, Iowa. In 1940, the couple joined First Lutheran Church along with 125 new members. Meloid enjoyed yard work, lawn and flowers, baseball and football games, going on bus trips with the senior citizens, and dancing and listening to old-time music. After retirement, he did several years of volunteer work for First Lutheran Church on the Worship Offering Committee and at St. John’s. He lived in Freeborn County all his life.

Meloid was a very thoughtful and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was very special in our lives. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his daughter, Janice and husband Jon Paske of Albert Lea; granddaughter, Julie and husband Kevin Meyer of Lanesboro; great-granddaughter, Nicollette Meyer; sister-in-law, Phyllis Morreim; and nieces and nephews.

Meloid was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mabel, in July 2002; two sisters: Inez and husband Elmer Rice, and Nevina and husband Chris Narveson; three brothers: Tilford, Laruen and Leonard Morreim; sister-in-law, Olive (Mrs. Tilford) Morreim; nieces: Eileen Byrhgli and Thedora Hyland; and nephews: Levern Narveson and Elwood Rice.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Peace and Power or the donor’s choice.
