WASECA &045; The problem in game two was the same as the season opener for the Albert Lea High School baseball team.
The Tigers couldn’t get enough hits.
Waseca left-hander John Kaminski tossed a two-hitter at the Tigers Thursday as Albert Lea lost 4-1 at Tink Larson Field.
&uot;We’ve got to put the ball in play better than we did the last two games,&uot; said ALHS coach Joe Sczublewski, whose squad fell to 0-2. &uot;You have to tip your hat to Kaminski, he pitched a pretty strong game, but we have to put the ball in play better in order for us to be successful.&uot;
Kaminski made that difficult, striking out 11 while walking one.
Nate Loberg and Derek Goodnature had Albert Lea’s lone hits.
The Bluejays, playing their season opener, got three hits off Albert Lea starter Brandon Klukow in the first inning for a 2-0 lead. Waseca added single runs in the third and fourth innings, when the Tigers had both their errors for the day.
Albert Lea scored in the sixth. Loberg singled, Ben Meillier reached on an error and both advanced on an infield out. Loberg scored on another infield out.
Klukow, a sophomore left-hander, pitched the first four innings and absorbed the loss. He gave up seven hits, with no walks and two strikeouts. Two of the runs off him were earned.
Goodnature did not allow a baserunner in two innings of relief. He had two strikeouts.
Defensively, Loberg in center field and David Villarreal in left field made outstanding plays with excellent catches for the third out with runners in scoring position.
The Tigers play at Rochester Mayo Monday.
