Virgil D. Sayles, 73, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Virgil D. Sayles, of Albert Lea, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 4, at the Bonnerup Funeral Service Chapel in Albert Lea. The Rev. Richard Spande will officiate. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 3, from 4-8 p.m. at the Bonnerup Funeral Service. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Albert Lea.
Mr. Sayles died Monday evening, March 31, 2003, at the Albert Lea Medical Center. He was 73 years of age.
Virgil was born Dec. 21, 1929, in Freeborn County, the son of Charlie and Ethel (Wadding) Sayles. He attended public school in District #47, and was a resident of Freeborn County all of his life.
Virgil was employed as a mechanic for several services stations in the area, and farmed for Kansota farms and Noland Brothers Farms. He was also a camp host for the Myre Big Island Park and the Rice Lake State Park.
Virgil enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and travel. He especially enjoyed visiting the campsites and sitting around the campfires. He loved to cook, spend time with his family, yard work and his pet dog, Mitzi.
Virgil is survived by one sister, Veva Amundson of Albert Lea; significant other, Debra Schmidt of Albert Lea; nephews: Ricky and his wife Judy Amundson of Albert Lea, Darrel and his wife Pat Amundson of Albert Lea, and Tom Warner of Mora, Minn.; niece, Beverly Palmer of Des Moines, Iowa; and
special friend, Kay Evenson of Albert Lea.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Floyd; and sister-in-law, Irene.
