Ellamae Crabtree, 80, Blooming Prairie

The memorial service for Ellamae Crabtree will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2003, at United Methodist Church, Ellendale. The Rev. David Brown III will officiate. Burial will be in Geneva Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Ellendale and one hour before the service at the church.

Ellamae died on Thursday, May 1, 2003, at Prairie Manor Nursing Home, Blooming Prairie. She was 80 years old.

Ellamae was born in Eldora, Iowa on June 8, 1922, the daughter of Leslie and Esther (Knight) Knight. At the age of five she moved with her family to a farm south of Austin. She attended rural school and was a 1940 graduate of Austin High School. The summer following graduation she worked at the court house in Austin and that fall she enrolled at the Teachers Training School in Austin. She taught one year at a rural school near Clarks Grove.

On June 8, 1942, Ellamae was united in marriage with Henry A. Crabtree in LeRoy, Minn. They farmed in rural Ellendale.

They are members of United Methodist Church where Ellamae had been active as Sunday school and Bible school teacher and also in UMW.

Ellamae had worked with Project Charlie in the Ellendale School system. She had been a member of TOP’s Club, worked as a 4-H leader and she and Henry were members of a travel trailer group. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, baking, traveling and playing cards.

Ellamae is survived by her husband, Henry of Owatonna, Minn.; four daughters: Gloria (Gene) Pogalz of Owatonna, Mary (Andy) Lerberg of Ellendale, Sharon Parsons of Paradise, Calif., Naomi Wangsness of Geneva; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Lloyd Crabtree; three sisters; and three brothers.
