Season ends for G-E with tough loss

AUSTIN &045; For Glenville-Emmons baseball coach Louie Toulouse, losses are a little bit easier to take if his team plays its best and is simply beaten by a superior opponent or performance.
He was disappointed Monday.
The Wolverines’ season ended with a lop-sided loss to Southland in sub-section tournament play at Austin.
&uot;We didn’t get many breaks, we didn’t make our own breaks,&uot; said Toulouse. &uot;It’s kind of a tough way to end the season, not playing one of our better games.&uot;
That wasn’t the case Saturday, when the Wolverines defeated Grand Meadow/LeRoy-Ostrander 8-1, avenging a loss in the final game of the regular season that cost them a share of the Southeast Conference title.
Mitch Meier pitched a complete game, scattering six hits while striking out 12 and walking none.
Isaiah Parry was 2-for-4 with four RBIs, Michael Greibrok 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Wade Flattum 2-for-3. Contributing one hit each were Meier, Mike Yocom, Kris Knutson, Jake Hansen and Alex Hansen.
&uot;We had timely hitting, real good defense, and of course a very good pitched game by Mitch,&uot; said Toulouse.
The Wolverines couldn’t match Southland’s offense, which totaled 15 hits, and the Rebels played errorless defense while the Wolverines had four fielding miscues.
Meier was 2-for-3 and Flattum 2-for-4. Parry, Robert Flugum, Devan Kaasa and Alex Hansen also had hits. Parry’s was a triple.
Parry pitched 4 2/3 innings and took the loss, allowing four earned runs on 11 hits, with no walks and six strikeouts. Greibrok finished on the mound for G-E.
The Wolverines, who were 6-4 in the SEC behind only co-champions Lyle/Austin Pacelli and GMLO, finished 8-9 for the season.
