Willard H. ‘Bill’ Olson, 77, Albert Lea

Memorial services for Willard H. Olson, age 77, of Albert Lea, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 2, at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. The Rev. Dwight Netzer will officiate. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Sunday, June 1, at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services on Monday.
Bill died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Willard H. Olson was born Jan. 3, 1926, to Willard A. and Ella (Hansen) Olson in Omaha, Neb. The family moved to Texas and then Des Moines, Iowa, before moving back to Omaha where Bill graduated from high school. He also graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in business administration. Bill served in the United States Army during World War II. On March 30, 1948, he was united in marriage to Jean Shafenberg in Casper, Wyo. The couple moved to Albert Lea in 1965 where Bill owned and operated Bill Olson Chevrolet until retiring in 1996. He was a member of Rotary, Elks and Albert Lea Country Club. Bill enjoyed golfing and especially spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Jean of Albert Lea; children: Suzanne Olson of Minneapolis, Bill (Angela) Olson of Albert Lea, and David (Cristi) Olson of Detroit; grandchildren: Brooke Olson of Albert Lea, Alex Scherber of Minneapolis, and Michael Olson of Detroit; sister-in-law, Mary Shafenberg of Albert Lea; and cousins: Elton Ryberg of Northfield and Orville Olson of Omaha.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
