Gilbert “Bob” Bohm, age 86, of Wells, died Monday, June 23, 2003, at Albert Lea Medical Center in Albert Lea.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells. The Rev. Robert Albers will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 25, at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells from 5-8 p.m., and one hour prior to services on Thursday. Interment will be in the
Rosehill Cemetery in Wells with military honors by the Wells Color Guard.
Gilbert was born on Dec. 30, 1916, in Danville Township, Blue Earth County, to Albert and Emma (Habeck) Bohm. He attended country school. He served in the U.S. Army overseas during World War II from 1941-1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
Gilbert married Violet Beckmann on Feb. 1, 1946, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wells. He was a former city street employee and truck driver. He played the drums in various old time bands for more than 60 years, including the Old Mill Band, Mansfield Accordion Band and Roger Passer Combo, among others. His favorite past times included old time music and watching the Minnesota Twins.
He is survived by three sons: Gary and wife Sally Bohm of Waseca, Wayne and wife Mary Bohm of Wells, and Dean and wife Debbie Bohm of Mankato; six grandchildren: Sheila, Jennifer, Jamie, Christopher, Angela and Kristen; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Lorna Cory and husband Adrian of Easton; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Violet, in 1993; two brothers: Harold and Hilmer Bohm; and one sister, Violet.
