Hazel Pearl Thorgrimsen, age 92, of Menahga, Minn., formerly of Albert Lea, died on Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at the Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga.
Hazel Pearl Redman was born on Jan. 15, 1912, in Moorhead, Minn., the daughter of Martin and Anna (Hohe) Redman. She grew up and attended school in Moorhead, where she graduated from high school in 1929. She went on to attend the University of North Dakota where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and graduated in 1933 with a degree in home economics. She was united in marriage to Hans Thorgrimsen on Oct. 7, 1933, in Moorhead. They lived in Bottineau, N.D., for seven years, then in various parts of the country before spending their last 20 years in Albert Lea. Hazel was a homemaker for many years besides owning and operating the Heart of the Artichoke, an antique and gift shop in Albert Lea. She was very musical and was a talented pianist and also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and reading. She was active in women’s groups, especially at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, and in P.E.O.
She is survived by her daughter, Anne (Donald F.) Marg of Nevis, Minn.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hans, on March 8, 1972; her brother, Martin LeRoy Redman; and a grandson, Matthew Lindekugel.
A memorial graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 2, at 10 a.m. at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Owatonna. The Rev. Dean from Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna will be the officiant. Inurnment will be held at the Forest Hill Cemetery. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Park Rapids is handling arrangements.
