Police used a boat last night to chase car thieves they believed fled to Fountain Lake, but they could not find them.

Two men, who police believe are juveniles, ransacked a home on Brookside Drive and stole a green Ford Expedition, police said. The keys were in the truck when it was stolen.

The time of the theft isn’t clear, but the owner of the SUV found it missing sometime after 9 p.m., after returning from work.

Officers saw the vehicle at Richway Avenue and Lakewood Avenue around 9:30, and got the description of the stolen vehicle minutes later.

They turned around and found the car abandonned at Brookside Circle with its lights on. A police dog tracked the pair to Fountain Lake. A boat was used to search the shoreline, but police did not find the perpetrators.
