A man wanted for missing a court date for driving after suspension, a misdemeanor, was apprehended by police Saturday as he walked passed the law-enforcement center &045; and charged for carrying drugs.
Benjamin Romeo Harrison, 37, was charged Monday with possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony.
According to the criminal complaint:
A police officer leaving the LEC recognized Harrison, who was walking past the very building where he failed to show up for a court date, and where police and deputies work.
The officer recognized him, verified his name, and informed him of the open warrant. The officer arrested the man and after a search found what turned out to be 1.2 grams of cocaine.
Harrison suggested that a friend must be playing a joke on him, and said he is not a dealer.
His next court date is scheduled for Oct. 27.
If convicted, he faces a maximum of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
