Funeral services for Mary E. Hanson, age 95, of Thorne Crest Retirement Center North, Albert Lea, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at First Baptist Church, Clarks Grove. The Rev. Roger Davies will officiate. Interment will be in Clarks Grove Cemetery. Visitation is 5-7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at Bayview/ Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services at the church.
Mary died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at Thorne Crest North.
Mary E. Hanson was born Jan. 20, 1908, at Albert Lea, the daughter of J. P. and Christine (Olson) Nelson. She attended school in District #39 in rural Freeborn County. On March 24, 1926, Mary was united in marriage to Harry F. Hanson. The couple farmed in the Clarks Grove area most of their lives. Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clarks Grove for 64 years. She sang in the church choir for many years, was a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Women’s Missionary Fellowship, circle member, and had served on various church boards. Mary was also a member of the Neighborhood Club for many years and the District #5 School Mother’s Club. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, sewing, gardening, fishing, traveling and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her children: Ardis Sundwall of Faribault, Marvel and her husband William Beiser of Conger, Marilyn and her husband Frank Cuden of Albert Lea, and David and his wife LeAnn Hanson of Ellendale; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Mrs. Walter (Vivian) Nelson of Albert Lea, and Mrs. Albert E. (Darlene) Hanson of Austin; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry, in 1993; granddaughter, Marcia Flim; great-grandson, Derek Sundwall; brothers: Joe, Alvin, Walter and Harry Nelson; sisters: Hilda Peterson, Olga Jensen and Lillian Lahaie; and sons-in-law, Helge Flim, Henry Draayer and the Rev. Norman Sundwall.
