Hollandale soccer team second in tourney

HOLLANDALE &045; Hollandale Christian School hosted its annual soccer tournament recently.

The day began with Hollandale taking on St. Paul’s Lutheran School of Latimer, Iowa. Hollandale jumped out to an early lead behind a goal by Josh Howe in the first half and never looked back. Jace DeBoer added two goals in the first half and followed up with another two in the second. The rest of the team held with awesome defense and excellent passing to blank Latimer 5-0.

In the second game, Timothy Christian from Wellsburg, Iowa, defeated Kanawha Christian 3-0.

Hollandale then took the field against Kanawha and played another terrific game. The scoring was started with a goal by Evan Anderson and followed by two more goals from DeBoer in the first half. Hollandale would add one more goal by DeBoer in the second half and coasted to a 4-0 victory behind a solid team effort.

Latimer would face Timothy Christian next and played a close game before falling 2-0.

The championship would be determined by the Hollandale vs. Timothy Christian game. Both teams were undefeated and had not been scored upon.

Hollandale came out ready to attack, but was scored upon three times in the first half while narrowly missing its shots on goal. Timothy continued the attack in the second half, but Hollandale was able to regroup and play its game, holding the visitors scoreless. Unfortunately the damage was done, and Hollandale fell 3-0.

Latimer would play Kanawha to wrap up the day, winning 1-0 for Latimer’s first victory in three years at the Hollandale Invitational.
