Doris L. Braaten, 90, Austin

Doris L. Braaten, age 90, of Moscow Township, rural Austin, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at her home.

She was born March 5, 1913, in Ruthven, Iowa, to Addison and Mabel (Reinhart) Holder. She graduated from the Osakis High School in 1931, and was married to Ole E. Braaten on Aug. 9, 1936, at Faribault. Doris was an avid quilter, donating many quilts to Lutheran Word Relief, the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, and Good Earth Village Bible Camp.

She also enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She was a member of the Moscow Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Robert; and brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. today, Dec. 9, at Moscow Lutheran Church with the Rev. Scott Duffus officiating. Interment will be in the Moscow Lutheran Cemetery in Moscow Township. Visitation was held at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary, Austin, on Monday from 4-8 p.m., and today for one hour before the service at the church. There will be no reviewal at the church.

Pall bearers will be: Kim Zenk, Kris Wilke, Kathy Krebsbach, Karla Palmer and Christy Shatek. Casket bearers will be: John Hall, Wayne Hall, Kurt Smeby, Bob Braaten, Steve Zenk and Bill Wilke.

She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law: Betty and Kent Smeby of Austin, Mabel (Buffy) and Jerry Shatek of Sheridan, Wyo., Pamela and David Fink of Union, Iowa, and Nancy and David Uecker of Fayetteville, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Margaret (Braaten) and Bennie Mueske of Austin; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; sister, Sheila Jones of Midland, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law: Orlo and Ina Holder of Fairbanks, Alaska, Lee Holder of Osakis, Minn., Elvina Holder of Aquilla, Texas, Doris Holder of Osakis, and Arlene Holder of Osakis; and nieces and nephews.
